Developers are vital to the world in which we live today. Your work is crucial to the success of every company in any industry. Each developer and every development team bring new ideas and innovation. We want the Microsoft Cloud and Azure to be the platform that allows all of the innovation to come together to empower everyone as they create the next generation.

Microsoft was established as a company that developed tools for developers. Visual Studio, .NET and GitHub are today the most popular and loved developer tools. We provide a reliable and complete platform for building amazing apps and solutions that enable individuals and organizations around the globe to achieve greater success.

Today, Microsoft Azure is used by over 95 percent of the largest companies in the world. There are also thousands of innovative small and medium-sized businesses that use Microsoft Azure. The NBA utilizes Azure and AI capabilities in order to transform billions of game data points into customized content for its fans.

The Microsoft Cloud and Azure meet you right where you are, making it simple for you to begin your cloud-native journey from anywhere. This means that developers can use their favourite languages and open-source frameworks to code to the cloud and edge. They can collaborate in a secure manner and integrate different components quickly with low-code solutions.

These are the most recent developments that Microsoft Build will discuss this week. To learn more, you can view the Scaling cloud native apps and Accelerating app modernization sessions.

With serverless technologies and the best Kubernetes experience, you can build modern cloud-native apps quickly.

Cloud-native apps will be the best because they are designed to fully take advantage of all that the cloud has to offer. Cloud-native design patterns can help you achieve the agility, efficiency and speed to innovate that your business needs. App users are demanding more from apps. Modern apps need to be able to deal with highly dynamic usage situations such as product launches, peak seasons and sporting events.

This is possible thanks to architectures and technologies such as containers, serverless and microservices, APIs and DevOps everywhere that offer the fastest path to cloud value. We are working hard to make it easier for you to use all of these capabilities with Azure, GitHub and the Microsoft Cloud.

Azure Container Apps is a platform that allows application developers to run microservices in serverless container without having to manage infrastructure. Azure Container Apps are generally available today and ready to be used. It is built on the Kubernetes ecosystem’s strong open-source foundation, which is the core of cloud-native apps.

Azure Kubernetes Services was created to be a destination and offer the best-managed Kubernetes experience, no matter if you’re a new user or a regular user. It provides elastic provisioning of capacity without having to manage the underlying compute infrastructure.

Adobe is a great example of how AKS can be used by customers today. Adobe adopted a microservices architecture and moved to cloud-native practices several years ago. AKS was chosen by Adobe because it is flexible, scalable, and multi-cloud. It allows for faster development from onboarding to production and provides automated guardrails using DevSecOps.

We have great updates today to improve the developer and operator experience with AKS even more. This makes it easier and faster than ever so that you can spend more of your time writing code. The Draft extension and CLI are now available. We also have a preview of a new AKS web-based application routing add-on and a KEDA (Kubernetes Event Driven Autoscaling extension).

A cloud-native platform offers power and scalability

The Microsoft Cloud is a rich development platform and ecosystem. Its services and the cloud infrastructure it provides allow you to concentrate on writing and shipping code. A complete cloud-native platform is available for you to build on and use, including containers, cloud-native databases and AI-based services.

Azure Cosmos DB, a fully-managed, serverless developer database, is the only one in the market to offer service agreements (SLAs), which guarantee 99.999 percent availability and single-digit millisecond latency. These guarantees are available worldwide at all scales, even during traffic surges.

We are improving Cosmos DB elasticity today with new burst capacities and increased serverless capacity up to 1TB — while only charging for storage and throughput. This ability allows developers to create scalable and cost-effective cloud-native apps that can handle unpredictable and intermittent traffic.

Customers are innovating faster with cloud-native technology. Azure Arc provides Azure security and cloud native services to hybrid and multiple cloud environments. This allows you to manage infrastructure and apps from anywhere.

Azure Arc can be used by Canada’s largest bank, Royal Bank of Canada. Azure Arc, a Kubernetes-based deployment allows the company to use existing infrastructure investments and skillsets for managing and automating database deployments. RBC was able to speed up their time to market and develop their products using Arc-enabled data services. This allowed them to focus more on innovation and integration of their products.

To enable multicloud and hybrid scenarios, we continue to innovate and provide new capabilities to Azure Ark. We are excited to announce several new Azure Arc capabilities today. This includes the landing zone accelerator for Azure Arc enabled Kubernetes. Customers will have greater agility to deploy cloud-native apps, and tools to make multicloud deployments easier. All this while strengthening security compliance. The landing zone accelerator offers best practices, guidance and automated reference implementations to make deployments quick and simple.

Azure Managed Grafana forms part of our strategy to offer customers all the tools they need for managing, monitoring, and protecting their multicloud and hybrid investments. This integration was recently released to make it easy to deploy Grafana dashboards with Azure’s high availability and security.

I am excited to announce that the Business Critical Tier of Azure Arc-enabled SQL Managed Incident is now generally. This allows you to fulfill the most stringent business continuity requirements. Developers can now build cloud-native apps that are scalable and cost-effective, and also add top-rated security features and automatic updates. This is a great opportunity to make your business more resilient.

Modernize Java applications

Java is still one of the most popular programming languages. We are committed to helping Java developers use the cloud to run their Spring applications easier in the cloud. As part of a long-standing collaboration with Pivotal (now VMware), Azure Spring Cloud is a fully managed service that Spring Boot applications can use to overcome the challenges of running Spring on a large scale. Azure Spring Cloud provides a platform that supports all types of Spring applications. To better reflect this, Azure Spring Apps is the new name for the service.

AzureSpringApps Enterprise will become generally available in June. It brings fully managed VMware Tanzu components that run on Azure as well as advanced Spring Runtime support. FedEx and other customers are already using this collaboration on Azure Spring Apps to deliver an effective solution for their end-customers. This will help predict delivery times for millions upon millions of packages worldwide.

Microsoft Cloud — Build with Microsoft

Microsoft Cloud allows you to develop with the most current technologies and empowers both control and productivity. It provides a reliable and complete platform that allows you to build amazing apps and solutions.

Microsoft Build celebrates the hard work of its members and helps them build the next chapter. To learn more, be sure to watch the session Scaling cloud native apps and accelerating application modernization. You should also view the Rapidly test, code, and ship from secure environments session to learn more about Microsoft’s developer tools. You’ll find plenty to do during the week, including announcements, customer stories and breakout sessions. There will also be technical demos and learning opportunities. Enjoy the experience. I cannot wait to see the results of your work.
